There are more than 700,000 employed in the healthcare industry with more than 250,000 working as registered nurses, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The average salary for healthcare workers in the practitioners sector is $87,260. There are more than 26,000 employees in the managerial sector of California’s healthcare industry, according to the BLS, with the average salary nearing $110,000.
According to the Centers of Excellence California Community Colleges (COECCC), the state is projected to see substantial growth in every healthcare industry through 2014 with home health services (+16%) and outpatient care centers (+14%) leading the charge. General medical and surgical hospitals, offices of physicians, and offices of health practitioners will see the lowest increase, but will still be at a healthy 8% increase. The projections have created a positive outlook on the state’s healthcare industry, especially for students pursuing their master’s degree in healthcare.
